Fashion, Music And Business Leaders Pay Tribute To Trailblazer Virgil Abloh After Designer Dies Aged 41

Virgil Abloh, fashion designer and visionary who lead as men’s artistic director at luxury brand Louis Vuitton and was founder of the Milan-based Off-White label has died on Sunday.

Tributes have poured in from leaders in fashion, music and business for the 41 year old designer.

“I’m so so saddened and devastated to hear about the passing of our dear friend Virgil Abloh. I’m sending all of my love and prayers to his beautiful family. You are an angel @VirgilAbloah and we love you…” tweeted Kris Jenner.

Drake took to Instagram to remember Abloh: “My plan is to touch the sky 1000 more times for you – love you eternally brother”. Kanye West and Pharrell Williams also posted social media tributes.

A statement announcing the designer’s passing was posted on the official account for Abloh.

“For over two years, Virgil valiantly battled a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma. He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019, undergoing numerous challenging treatments, all while helming several significant institutions that span fashion, art and culture.”

Abloh launched Off-White in 2013, his own-label focussing on high-end street fashion. After collaborating with retail brands including IKEA, he joined LVMH in 2018. Earlier in 2021 LVMH bought a 60% stake in the Off-White label.

Culturally Abloh is recognised in having significant impact beyond the world of fashion, with strong influence in the world of music as a DJ and collaborator.

His contributions to the industry have been acknowledged as ‘shape-shifting’ for a new generation of creators working beyond his own career path to ensure greater equality and inclusion.

British Vogue editor Edward Enninful called Abloh “a giant among men”

Abloh is survived by his wife Shannon and children, Lowe and Grey.
